Pet grooming for Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers!
Most pet owners prefer the “comfort cut”, however certain features of the show groom
have some very practical ‘ applications
1. BODY.
The Wheaten body and head can be clipped with a # 4 blade. Keep in mind that because
you are not thinning the coat as in the ‘ show groom’ you are merely ‘ shorting
it’. You would keep this length and not much more—ore else it will ‘matt’!
2. HEAD.
You can have a ‘short-version’ of the show groom with very little fall (hair over
the eyes ). However, the groomer should use thinning shears on the cheeks &
ears to make them easier to manage.
3. EARS.
Many groomers have taken to leaving the ears like that of a poodle or Shit-Tzu, this
is a ‘big mistake’. Wheatens ‘must have’ the hair ’ pulled from’ the ear channel
or else infection will result. Also the earflap itself should be kept shaved
with a #7 or # 10 blade, and then scissored to blend in with the top of the
skull. This is also a ‘must’ to keep the ears free from infection.
4. FEET.
Wheaten are Terriers, and ALL Terriers are prone to long nails. They MUST BE clipped
every groom-NO LESS! The hair between the pads on the feet should also be kept
short for cleanliness and comfort.
5. PRIVATE AREAS.
Both Males and Females need to be kept ‘ clean and hair free’ in these areas,
otherwise urine will gather on the long hair and cause infections. This is just
‘general hygiene’.
